Bauxite is a rock formed from a laterite soil that has been harshly leached of silica and other soluble materials in a wet tropical or subtropical climate. It is the primary ore of aluminium. It is a mixture of hydrous aluminium oxides, aluminium hydroxides, clay minerals and insoluble materials such as quartz, hematite, magnetite, siderite and goethite. Bauxite is typically a soft (H:1-3), white to gray to reddish brown material with a pisolitic structure, earthy luster and having a low specific gravity (SG: 2.0-2.5). Bauxite is primarily used in making Aluminium, as an abrasive, as a proppant in oil fields
